Make the best coffee with your drip coffee machine!

I think we can all agree that in order to completely wake up each morning, we need to drink a nice, warm and delicious cup of coffee! The best way to do that at home, is to use a drip coffee maker, which is why they can now be found literally everywhere!

Which is why all coffee lovers will notice that there is a distinct difference in taste between the coffee bought from and brewed in a good coffee shop and that made anywhere else, including of course the coffee we enjoy at home or at work!

The coffee that you can get in most diners, restaurants and work places is made using normal drip coffee makers, like the ones found in our homes, the problem is, that once the brewing process is over, the coffee just sits there in the pot while being kept warm by the coffee maker’s hot plate!

You see, the more the coffee sits there, the more its taste gets altered in a bad way! It sort of deteriorates and loses its kick! If it’s left there long enough, the brewed coffee will simply become warm water with a slight aftertaste of coffee! This is because two totally different processes, are working together to make sure that the taste of your coffee gets ruined as it sits waiting on the hot plate!

First of all, there’s the constant reheating of the coffee that occurs towards the bottom of the pot! With each reheat, the coffee loses precious moisture and the flavor takes an inevitable turn for the worst: it starts to deteriorate! This is all a matter of simple physics!

You see, the reheated coffee, will rise towards surface, while the cooler coffee at the surface will be forced to the bottom, where it will too get reheated and rise to the surface, essentially causing a vicious cycle!

The major problem with this vicious cycle, is that when the coffee rises all the way to the top, it immediately gets exposed to the air! This starts the oxidization process, which in its turn takes  a serious toll on the coffee’s taste: it starts to degrade it!

Here’s an example to better understand what’s going on: have you ever peeled an apple and let it sit for some minutes? Have you noticed that its will almost immediately start to turn brown and how it won’t taste as good afterward? That’s the same that’s happening to the coffee!

This is how this vicious circle works: as the coffee waits sitting on the hot plate found on common drip coffee makers it gets reheated which causes the coffee at the bottom to rise at the very top of the pot and get oxidized!

As it rises, it causes the coffee found higher in the pot to get to the bottom where it too will get heated and rise to the top in order to get oxidized! In other words, the top and bottom halves of the coffee in a reheated pot, will take turns in getting oxidized!

Here’s what coffee shops and people passionate about the coffee made using drip coffee makers do: they keep their brewed coffee in special thermos containers and carafes, instead or constantly reheated pots! This keeps the coffee in an airtight seal, which not only prevents it from getting into contact with the air, it also doesn’t allow its warmness to dissipate!

In other words, if you want your coffee to taste as good as possible regardless of how long after it’s been brewed you will be drinking it, then you need to get an insulated carafe, or a thermos container! Now you know what you need to do in order to keep the taste of your coffee from deteriorating, and as you can see, it’s quite simple!
