How to keep drip coffee makers as clean as possible
A clean drip coffee maker makes the best coffee!
If you would like to drink tasty and freshly brewed every day, then there’s one very important thing that you should be doing and that is to keep you drip coffee makers as clean as possible!
You may not know it, but the more a coffee maker gets used, the easier it is for salt and other particles commonly found in water, to build up inside it and severely affect the taste of the coffee once the brewing process is finished!
Which is why, as I said earlier, your coffee maker should be cleaned on a regular basis! In fact, some experts actually suggest that you should be giving it a good clean at least once a week!
But the insides of drip coffee makers are not the only part that should always be kept spotlessly clean! There’s also the carafe to consider which should be washed thoroughly on a daily basis! A good time to do that, would be right after you’ve poured your last cup of coffee for the day!
Also keep in mind that you should not just rinse the carafe, you should wash it thoroughly and carefully, using water and dish water liquid! This will prevent stains from building up inside it, which will result in the taste of your coffee being altered the more it stays in the carafe!
If despite your best efforts you find out that stains have started accumulating inside your pot or carafe, then don’t worry, there are some very effective methods for removing them! If the stains appear to be burns caused by leaving the pot or carafe on the hot plate that most drip coffee makers use to keep the coffee warm, for long periods of time, then you need to use some ice, salt and a bit of lemon juice!
Just drop all these things in your carafe or coffee pot, fill it with water and just wait until the burn stains start to peel off! Then just wash the pot a bit more thoroughly than usual, in order to completely remove the lemon juice and you will be good to go with a clean pot in no time flat!
Most pots bundled with drip coffee makers, tend to become a bit hazy if they get used excessively, but that too is not something to worry about! You can simply use one of the many commercial coffee machines cleaning products that are widely available online, or a solution consisting of three parts water and one part, that you’ll have to leave in the pot for a few minutes!
No matter which of these two methods you use, just remember to clean the pot or carafe afterward in order to completely remove the taste of vinegar or the components of the professional cleaning product!
Speaking of vinegar it’s great for effectively cleaning the inside of drip coffee makers as well as the filter basket! And it can do both simultaneously! Many experts agree that using this cleaning method once per month, will keep the insides of all drip coffee makers as clean and free of buildup and stains as possible, which of course will result in consistently delicious coffee!
Just fill your coffee maker‘s water tank half with vinegar and half with water and start the brewing process as you would for a regular, full, pot pf coffee! Once that first brewing circle is done, you should perform a couple more using just water, in order to remove the taste of vinegar from your coffee maker! You wouldn’t want your morning coffee to taste like vinegar, after all, right?
As you can see, proper care and cleaning of all components of a coffee maker is essential if you want your coffee to taste as good as possible! Thanks to this article, you now know exactly what you should be doing to keep your drip coffee makers as clean as possible!
